One Day

This poem was written specifically for my daughter Lea. In our society image seems to be everything. Lies and hate pursue and victimize young women and girls based on what their appearance shows. I try to tell my daughter everyday how beautiful she is and how much I love her, nothing else matters. Beauty should be defined by spirit and not by appearance. There are lots of “Beautiful” women in this world with the nastiest and most appalling attitudes. I would be disgusted and disgraced to be even in the same room with one of these types of women just based on the way that they act and how society accepts this as normal. It disgusts me to think of this when I have a young, kind spirited, uplifting, humorous daughter who not only is beautiful externally but could really teach those who feel they are better than others just based on their appearance what it really means to be beautiful.

One day you will see all the beauty I see standing right in front of me

Your kindness and compassion are forever timeless
Your words of wisdom strike deep within
Your spirit filled with curiosity is the one true thing I see

One day you will see all the beauty I see standing right in front of me

I remember the days where you used to run and play
The smile that ran across your face
Your laughter filled the room with joy
Your beauty within a reflection of who you would come to be

One day you will see all the beauty I see standing right in front of me
